Your partner rubbing the same spot on your back for hours. The cold washcloths piled beside the bed. The jokes between contractions. The way the you can feel the whole room hold their breath when someone says, “I can see the baby.”
I’m not there to make birth look softer, neater, or more beautiful than it was. I’m there because it already matters. Because one day the smallest details will be the ones you want back most.
